Let's get the world dancing.

A big ambition for a small company, and a simple idea underneath it: dancing should be easy to find, and running it should be easy too.

Our mission and vision

At DanceCloud, we're working towards a world where anyone, anywhere can find their way onto the dance floor. Where organising a dance event is effortless, discovering one is simple, and no one is ever held back from dancing by where they live, what they know, or where they're starting from. Because a dancing world is a more joyful world.

We do this by making organising dance events effortless, so the people who run them have more time to teach and dance. And we help every dancer find their rhythm, by making dance easy to find, simple to join, and open to all - whatever their level.

But we can't do it on our own. A dance floor fills because someone books the hall, teaches the basics and puts the music on. Every scene we help grow is one that organisers built first. We're just here to make it easier.

Where we started

Founded by a beginner who never left

DanceCloud was built by a dancer who's spent twenty years on the other side of the problem.

I walked into a beginner swing class in London in 2005 to meet new people. The people had me hooked from the first night; the dancing took about a month! After a few years, I ended up teaching. Not being a natural dancer, I had to work out how everything fitted together, which turned out to be useful for explaining it to absolute beginners.

By the time I built the first version of DanceCloud, I was teaching and helping run events in London. Watching the organiser I taught for lose hours every week balancing lead and follow sign-ups by hand, then more hours chasing bank transfers, inspired me to build ticketing that fixed both.

When I moved to York, the scene was small and far from certain to survive. A few of us rebuilt it from beginner classes up, and watching York Lindy grow into a warm, vibrant community has been one of the great pleasures of my life. It's also where DanceCloud Listings comes from: we run brilliant events and still struggle to get them in front of dancers, because a social media algorithm decides who sees them. I've always cared most about beginners - the person who turns up curious and knows nobody - because that's where we all started.

Making dance easier to find is how more of those people get through the door. York Lindy runs on DanceCloud, so I'm on the other side of it every week: teaching, organising, and inspiring the next generation of dancers to keep the scene alive.

The team

Meet the team

Dancers who write code. It turns out the two have more in common than you'd think: both are mostly practice, and both are better with other people.
