- Why do you charge ticket fees instead of a monthly subscription?
- One of the things we love about the dance community is how varied its organisers are: solo teachers, volunteer-run community groups, schools with a full timetable, established companies running events every week. A monthly fee works for some of those and prices out the rest — particularly the smallest, and anyone whose scene goes quiet for a season. So we charge on tickets sold instead. Cost follows income: a busy term costs more than a quiet one, a quiet month costs nothing, and listing is free either way. It means every organiser gets the same platform, whatever size they are.
- Can I pass fees on to the customer, or do I have to absorb them?
- Your choice. The DanceCloud ticket fee can be added on top of your ticket price so the dancer pays it, or absorbed into the price you've set — whichever you prefer, set per event. Payment processing is different. Stripe charges per card transaction rather than per ticket, and deducts it before the money reaches you. So that portion always comes out of your revenue. It's the cost of taking card payments, and it's always factored in, whoever you sell through.
- What does the dancer see at checkout?
- That depends on how you've set it up. If you're passing the ticket fee on, we show it clearly. The dancer sees the ticket price and the fee itemised, and it appears on each ticket they buy. If you're absorbing it, they simply see the price you set, with no fee shown at all. Either way there are no surprises at the end of checkout. We won't add anything a dancer hasn't already seen.
- What does Stripe charge?
- Stripe publishes its rates in full, and they vary by card type: see Stripe's pricing page. Most of your sales will be on standard domestic cards, so that's the rate worth planning around. International and commercial cards cost more, but are unlikely to be used, particularly for events targeting a local or regional scene. The Stripe fee is charged per transaction rather than per ticket, so one booking of four places incurs one fee.
- What happens to fees if I refund a payment?
- Refund through DanceCloud and our ticket fee comes back to you in full. Partial refunds work the same way — refund half a ticket's value and we return half the fee. Stripe doesn't return its processing fee on refunds, so that stays as charged.
